The
Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) under the Ministry of Railways have invited online applications for
3993 vacancies of Junior Engineer (JE) and Depot Material Superintendent (DMS) under CEN No. 04/2026. Applications can be
submitted online from 14 August 2026 to 13 September 2026 (23:59 hrs) through the official RRB websites, with recruitment spread across 21 RRBs and 37 post categories in the Electrical, Engineering (Civil), Mechanical, Signal & Telecommunication and Stores departments.

A candidate possessing more than one minimum educational qualification mapped to different Exam Groups can choose only one Exam Group, and must opt for posts whose qualification is mapped to that chosen group. DMS candidates whose diploma discipline isn't in the chart above must choose one of the listed Exam Groups while registering.
Citizenship
A candidate must be a citizen of India, a citizen of Nepal, a subject of Bhutan, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or specified East African/other countries with the intention of permanently settling in India (subject to a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India where applicable).

RRB JE & DMS Selection Process 2026
Selection comprises four stages: 1st Stage CBT, 2nd Stage CBT, Document Verification (DV) and Medical Examination (ME).

Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for scribe-eligible candidates). This stage is of screening nature; the normalized score is used only for shortlisting to the 2nd Stage CBT, at 15 times the community-wise vacancy for each RRB.

- Duration: 120 minutes (160 minutes for scribe-eligible candidates); a virtual calculator is provided on screen.
- Negative marking: 1/3rd mark deducted for each wrong answer, in both stages of CBT.
- Minimum qualifying marks: UR & EWS 40%, OBC-NCL & SC 30%, ST 25% (relaxable by up to 2 marks for PwBD candidates in case of shortage against reserved vacancies).
- Document Verification is based on merit and options in the 2nd Stage CBT; the number of candidates called equals the number of vacancies.
- Medical Examination follows the post-specific medical standard; candidates found medically unfit are not offered any alternative appointment.
How to Apply for RRB JE & DMS Recruitment 2026
- Visit the official RRB website and use the link provided for CEN No. 04/2026.
- Create an Account using a valid personal mobile number and email ID (these cannot be changed later); use existing login credentials if already registered for an earlier RRB CEN.
- Optionally authenticate identity using DigiLocker/Aadhaar at the account-creation stage for smoother verification later.
- Choose only one RRB and indicate order of preference for Railway Zones/Production Units and posts/categories you are eligible for.
- Fill in personal and educational details, and select the medium of examination and Exam Group.
- Capture a live photograph through the application module (pre-existing photos are not accepted) and upload your signature in JPG/JPEG format (30–49 KB).
- SC/ST candidates seeking a free train travel pass must upload their SC/ST certificate in PDF (under 400 KB).
- Pay the examination fee online via net banking, debit/credit card, or UPI.
- Submit the application and note down the Registration Number for future reference.
- Use the modification window (16–25 September 2026) if corrections are needed, on payment of a ₹250 modification fee per occasion.
Documents Required
- Original Diploma/Degree certificates and mark sheets, with two sets of self-attested photocopies
- Matriculation/SSC/SSLC certificate as proof of date of birth
- Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/EBC) in the prescribed annexure format, where applicable
- Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) certificate and UDID, where applicable
- Ex-Servicemen discharge/employment certificate and self-declaration, where applicable
- No Objection Certificate (NOC) from present employer, for serving Central/State Government or PSU employees
- Aadhaar/DigiLocker details used for identity verification
- Colour passport-size photograph, not older than two months, at each stage (CBT/DV/Medical Examination)
- Scribe-related certificates and letters of undertaking, for eligible PwBD candidates using scribe assistance
Important Conditions
- Candidates must possess the prescribed educational qualification as on the closing date of application; those awaiting final results are not eligible to apply.
- Vacancies indicated are provisional and may increase, decrease, or become nil, based on Railway Administration requirements.
- Negative marking of 1/3rd mark per wrong answer applies at both stages of CBT.
- Request for change of examination centre, date, or shift will not be entertained under any circumstances.
- Candidates found medically unfit for their opted post will not be offered any alternative appointment.
- Once empanelled against a post/Railway/category, candidates forfeit the right to be considered for any other post/category within the same Pay Level.
- RRBs reserve the right to modify, cancel, or reschedule any stage of recruitment, and to change vacancy numbers, at any point.
- Use of unfair means, impersonation, or submission of false information leads to lifetime debarment from all RRB/RRC examinations and possible legal action.
